Sobering Centre Opens

YELLOWKNIFE, July 17, 2017 – The new Sobering Centre program recently announced by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, began operating as scheduled on Monday, July 17, 2017.

A collaborative effort by the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA), the City of Yellowknife and the Department of Health and Social Services led to an agreement to temporarily host the program in the Yellowknife Community Arena until a longer term location is found.

Strategic Planning Document to Guide NWT Geological Survey Released

YELLOWKNIFE (July 7, 2017) – The Northwest Territories Geological Survey (NTGS) has released the strategic plan that will guide its operations through 2022.  

Building on a vision first set out in 2011, the five-year plan includes changes to reflect the Government of the Northwest Territories’ post-Devolution jurisdiction over NWT lands and resources. 

The new plan defines the NTGS mission, vision, and values and presents its scientific program under six goals that align with the mandate priorities of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

Management Plan for Polar Bears in the Northwest Territories Released

Yellowknife (June 27, 2017) – Environment and Natural Resources Minister Robert C. McLeod, acting on behalf of the Northwest Territories Conference of Management Authorities (CMA) released the Inuvialuit Settlement Region Polar Bear Joint Management Plan and the Framework for Action for Management of Polar Bears in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region today.                                                     

REDI Initiative set to Increase Public Understanding and Awareness of Resource and Energy Development

INUVIK (June 22, 2017) – A new public information campaign is set to increase public understanding and awareness regarding the Northwest Territories’ renewable and non-renewable energy resources and the means by which they can be developed.

Called REDI for Resources and Energy Development Information, the new initiative encourages NWT residents to “Get REDI” with fact-based information about the benefits, risks and potential for resource and energy development in the NWT.

Interim Location identified for Sobering Centre Program

YELLOWKNIFE (June 14, 2017) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services, announced that an interim location has been identified for the Sobering Centre program in Yellowknife.  A collaborative effort by the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA), the City of Yellowknife and the Department of Health and Social Services has resulted in an agreement to host the program in the Yellowknife Community Arena until September 13, 2017.

The program will be launched on July 17, 2017.
