Program Design Selected for the Northwest Territories 9-1-1 Service

YELLOWKNIFE (February 5, 2018) – The Honourable Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), and the Honourable Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services (HSS), today announced a key decision in the program design for the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) new 9-1-1 service: an in-house Primary Public Safety Answering Point will be established, co-located with the existing HSS Med-Response program.

Mineral Resources Act What We Heard Document Released

YELLOWKNIFE (January 23, 2018) — The Government of the Northwest Territories has released its What We Heard report on public engagements that will inform the development of a new NWT Mineral Resources Act (MRA).

The GNWT’s public engagement on the MRA encompassed seven well-attended community visits across the NWT and submissions collected from an interactive engagement portal, small-group meetings, email, social media, phone, and mail.

Premier McLeod to talk about the future of the Northwest Territories in Vancouver

Increase to the Northwest Territories Minumum Wage

YELLOWKNIFE (January 10, 2018) – Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Alfred Moses today announced an increase to the Northwest Territories (NWT) Minimum Wage.

Effective April 1, 2018, the minimum wage will increase from $12.50 per hour to $13.46 per hour. This decision was informed by research and options provided by the Minimum Wage Committee, which was established in 2013 to advise the Minister.

Chair of the Liquor Licensing Board Appointed

YELLOWKNIFE (January 3, 2018) – Robert C. McLeod, Minister of Finance with the Government of the Northwest Territories has appointed Sandra Aitken as Chair of the Northwest Territories Liquor Licensing Board.

The Liquor Licensing Board regulates the conduct of licence holders, the management and equipment of licensed premises, and the conditions under which liquor may be sold or consumed.

Ms. Aitken’s new role as Chair of the Board took effect December 15, 2017.
