2018 Outstanding Volunteers Honoured

YELLOWKNIFE (May 24, 2018) – Alfred Moses, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), will present the Northwest Territories (NWT) 2018 Outstanding Volunteer Awards at a ceremony today in Yellowknife.  These annual awards provide an opportunity to recognize volunteers and volunteer organizations for their outstanding contributions in communities across the territory.

Recipients of the 2018 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards are:

Indigenous Leaders Meet with Minister of Health and Social Services

YELLOWKNIFE (May 15, 2018) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services met with NWT Indigenous leaders in Yellowknife May 10-11, 2018. This government to government meeting represented the third meeting between the minister and leaders.  Building on successes from the previous meetings in the K’atl’odeechee First Nation (2015) and Norman Wells (2016), leaders discussed health outcomes and strategies.

GNWT partners with Royal Military College of Canada on engineering projects

YELLOWKNIFE (May 14, 2018) — The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to have partnered with the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) on infrastructure projects across the Northwest Territories.

GNWT Announces 11 Recipients for the 2018-19 Health Choices Fund

YELLOWKNIFE (May 10, 2018) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services announced eleven funding recipients for the 2018-19 Healthy Choices Fund.

The Healthy Choices Fund helps eligible organizations and community governments maximize the impact of health promotion and prevention activities that support individuals, families, and communities in making positive lifestyle choices.

GNWT Announces Anti-Poverty Funding Recipients

YELLOWKNIFE (May 2, 2018) – The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, announced the recipients of over $1 million that the Government of the Northwest Territories is investing  in local projects that take action against poverty.  In total, 43 projects led by community and Indigenous organizations will receive funding under the 2018-19 Anti-Poverty Fund this year.

GNWT Introduces Vision for Addressing Energy and Climate Change

YELLOWKNIFE (May 1, 2018) – The Government of the Northwest Territories has released its broad vision related to energy and climate change in the Northwest Territories.

The GNWT recognizes that NWT residents are concerned about the impacts of climate change and is committed to a government-wide approach that takes into account northern energy demands and the cost of living, while reflecting international and national commitments to lower greenhouse gas emissions, exploring options for carbon pricing systems, and capturing local alternatives.
