Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and Government of the Northwest Territories announce support for securing the energy security in the Western Arctic

The Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) today announced their support for the development of gas resources in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region to ensure the energy security of communities in the Beaufort Delta.

Film Apprenticeship Pilot Program Announced

A new Film Apprenticeship Program will soon provide opportunities for the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) film workforce to gain on-the-job experience with major film productions.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) Wally Schumann announced the initiative on Saturday at the NWT Film Gala and awards event concluding Yellowknife’s 12th annual International Film Festival.

GNWT Homelessness Strategic Plan to be developed

YELLOWKNIFE (September 26, 2018)- Alfred Moses, Minister Responsible for the Northwest Territories Housing Corporation (NWTHC) and Minister Responsible for Addressing Homelessness,  has announced a call for proposals leading to the development of a Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Homelessness Strategic Plan.  A contractor will be selected to conduct an assessment and scan of all GNWT homelessness initiatives as well as to develop an overarching homelessness strategic plan.

Awards acknowledge and celebrate achievements in literacy in NWT

YELLOWKNIFE (September 26, 2018) – Recipients of the Council of the Federation Literacy Award and the Ministerial Literacy Awards were honoured today during the annual Adult Learners’ Luncheon at Northern United Place in Yellowknife. 

Created in 2002 by the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, the Ministerial Literacy Awards celebrate and recognize adult learners who have overcome learning and literacy challenges or championed literacy to learners of all ages.

New Partnership Advances Indigenous Cultural Tourism in the NWT

YELLOWKNIFE (September 26, 2018) – A new agreement will see as much as $257,000 invested annually in Indigenous tourism businesses in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The support was confirmed in a Memorandum of Understanding signed yesterday by the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), and Northwest Territories Tourism (NWTT). 

For 2018-19, funding has been earmarked for multiple projects, including:

Joint Sobering Centre and Day Centre Opens in Yellowknife

YELLOWKNIFE (September 25, 2018) – The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, and the Minister Responsible for Addressing Homelessness, Alfred Moses, together with the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority(NTHSSA), the NWT Disability Council and Advanced Medical Solutions, officially opened the doors to a new joint sobering centre and day centre program in Yellowknife.

Tourism Business Mentorship Agreement Renewed

The GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) has renewed its successful partnership with the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO).

The agreement supports ITI’s work to build a sustainable, professional, skilled and trained tourism workforce by supporting mentorship opportunities for tourism operators and employees under the Department’s Tourism Business Mentorship Program.

Changes to the Northwest Territories Nominee Program's Employer Streams

YELLOWKNIFE (September 17, 2018) The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) has introduced changes to the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) that enhance program integrity, streamline requirements and clarify guidelines.

With the goal of continuous improvement and in response to client feedback, ECE has revised and clarified program guidelines, criteria and application forms.
