New Mental Health Act

YELLOWKNIFE (August 29, 2018) — The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy is pleased to announce that the new Mental Health Act will be coming into force on September 1, 2018.

The new Mental Health Act (the Act) is an essential part of the Department of Health and Social Services’ work to modernize mental health care in the Northwest Territories to better protect the rights, safety and wellbeing of individuals living with mental illness.

Grand Opening of the Sahtú Got'iné Regional Health and Social Services Centre and Sahtú Dene Nechá Kǫ́ Long Term Care Facility

NORMAN WELLS (August 28, 2018) – Residents of the Sahtú celebrated the official opening of the Sahtú Got'iné Regional Health and Social Services Centre and Sahtú Dene Nechá Kǫ́ Long Term Care Facility on Monday, August 27 in Norman Wells. 

2017/2018 Drop the Pop Campaign Awards Announced

(YELLOWKNIFE, July 31, 2018) – Glen Abernethy, Minister of Health and Social Services, announced the 14 schools chosen to receive awards as part of the 2017-2018 Drop the Pop campaign.

This year, 48 schools in the Northwest Territories participated in “Drop the Pop,” using funding provided by the Government of the Northwest Territories to promote healthy food and beverage choices. The winning schools will be awarded prizes ranging from $800 – $1,500 in recognition of their Drop the Pop activities.

Updates to the Northwest Territories Petroleum Legislation: What We Heard Report Released

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) has released a “What We Heard” report which summarizes the feedback it received during public and stakeholder engagements on proposed changes to the Petroleum Resources Act (PRA) and the Oil and Gas Operations Act (OGOA). 

From March 5 through May 4, 2018, the Department led an extensive engagement campaign on the development of amendments to the two Acts as identified in commitment 1.3.2 of the Government of the Northwest Territories Mandate.
