3rd Intergovernmental Meeting between Akaitcho Dene First Nation and GNWT

YELLOWKNIFE (November 17, 2016) – Premier and Cabinet of the 18th Legislative Assembly met with the Akaitcho Dene First Nation leaders, Chief Felix Lockhart, Chief Edward Sangris, Chief Ernest Betsina and Sub-Chief Robert Sayine in Yellowknife November 15.

This was the third meeting of the Akaitcho Dene First Nation (ADFN) and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) since they signed the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding on May 23, 2013.

1st Intergovernmental Meeting between Kátł’odeeche First Nation and GNWT

YELLOWKNIFE (November 16, 2016) – Premier Bob McLeod met with the Kátł’odeeche First Nation, Chief Roy Fabian and Councilors in Yellowknife yesterday morning. 

This was the inaugural meeting of the Kátł’odeeche First Nation and the Government of the Northwest Territories since they signed the Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding on September 1, 2016. 

The GNWT and Francophone Community Representatives Review French Services Implementation

YELLOWKNIFE (November 16, 2016) – As part of their ongoing collaboration, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Fédération franco-ténoise (FFT) Consultation and Cooperation Committee met yesterday to review progress on the implementation of the GNWT Strategic Plan on French Language Communications and Services.

GNWT launches mandate reporting website

YELLOWKNIFE (November 4, 2016) – As part of its commitment to improve openness and transparency, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a new mandate reporting website where the public will be able to track the government’s progress on fulfilling the Mandate of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

The website will allow residents to see up-to-date progress on each commitment under the five major themes of the Mandate.

Program Offers New Opportunities for Aboriginal Tourism

YELLOWKNIFE (November 2, 2016) — The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment has introduced the Aboriginal Tourism Champions Program as an incentive to develop and expand authentic cultural tourism products in communities across the Northwest Territories.

The vision of the program is to develop a network of Aboriginal champions that will work to strengthen cultural tourism capacity within communities and motivate organizations to use tourism initiatives as a stimulus for economic development and cultural revitalization.

Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Accepts Recommendations from OAG Performance Audit

YELLOWKNIFE (October 25, 2016) – The Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs has accepted the recommendations from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada (OAG) Performance Audit of the Department.

The OAG undertook a performance audit of the Department’s operations to assess MACA’s performance as it relates to supporting community governments with the provision of essential services to residents.

Premier McLeod looks forward to working with Federal Government on climate change
