Establishment of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority

YELLOWKNIFE (August 2, 2016) – On August 1st the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) began operations. This represents a major milestone for the transformation of the NWT Health and Social Services System, and for our ability to provide the best care and outcomes to residents across the Northwest Territories.

These changes have been made to help break down systemic barriers to efficient and effective care and service delivery and build the foundation of a system with improved accountability and performance.

Update on Robertson Headframe Discussions

YELLOWKNIFE (July 29, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has determined after a lengthy review of options that it will not be preserving the Robertson Headframe.

The GNWT entered into discussions with Miramar Mining Limited earlier this year about whether there was an opportunity to save the headframe from demolition, given its historical significances to the history of mining in the Northwest Territories and as an iconic feature of the Yellowknife area landscape.  

NWT credit rating of Aa1 (Stable) confirmed for tenth consecutive year

YELLOWKNIFE  (JULY 25, 2016)  - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) received confirmation of its Aa1 credit rating with a stable outlook from Moody’s Investor Services. With this latest confirmation, the GNWT has maintained this rating for a decade. The Aa1 rating is the second-highest rating available from Moody’s, who evaluated the credit strengths and challenges of the territory.

Government of the Northwest Territories continues roll out of Electronic Medical Records

INUVIK (July 12, 2016) – Clients in the Beaufort-Delta Health and Social Services Authority will become the newest beneficiaries of electronic medical information systems, as the Government of the Northwest Territories continues improvements to the NWT Health and Social Services system with its roll-out of the Territorial Electronic Medical Record (EMR) project.

In collaboration with TELUS Health, authorized health professionals will have secure, instant access to the medical information of patients, which will help enhance continuity of patient care.

Tentative Collective Agreement reached between the NWT Teachers’ Association and the Government of the Northwest Territories

YELLOWKNIFE (June 28, 2016) – The NWT Teachers’ Association and the Government of the Northwest Territories have reached a tentative agreement.  Both parties are pleased with the progress made in negotiations and are recommending ratification of the agreement to their principals. 

Details of the tentative agreement will not be publicly released until the ratification process is completed.

Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Leadership Council and Regional Wellness Council Appointments Announced

YELLOWKNIFE (June 24, 2016) The appointment of Regional Wellness Council members in the Northwest Territories six regions was made today by Minister of Health and Social Services Glen Abernethy, representing a pivotal step in the transformation of the health and social services system and the creation of the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (THSSA).

GNWT Funding Community Groups Sponsoring Syrian Refugees

YELLOWKNIFE (June 16, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to announce funding has been made available for  use by community groups who are sponsoring Syrian refugee families relocating to the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Through ongoing efforts to support and assist community groups in welcoming Syrian families to the NWT, the GNWT has committed $90,000 to assist sponsoring groups. Each group has the opportunity to apply for funding of up to $15,000 before the end of September 2016.

Premier McLeod recognizes Fred Carmichael for his induction into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame

YELLOWKNIFE (June 10, 2016) – Premier Bob McLeod issued the following statement on the induction of Gwich’in pilot and Northern aviation pioneer Fred Carmichael into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame today:
