YELLOWKNIFE (October 5, 2016) — A five year work plan to advance conservation network planning was released today by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

Healthy Land, Healthy People: GNWT Priorities for Advancement of Conservation Network Planning 2016-2021, outlines key tasks the GNWT will undertake over the next five years to pursue a comprehensive and collaborative approach to conservation network planning.

GNWT releases draft framework for managing cabin leases and recreational uses of public lands

YELLOWKNIFE (October 4, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories has released its draft Recreational Land Management Framework for the Northwest Territories. The framework will guide how the GNWT develops policy and makes decisions about public land management for years to come.

The draft framework outlines the GNWT’s approach for reviewing and updating its management of cabin leases and recreational uses of public land across the NWT.

GNWT celebrates official opening of Ka’a’gee Tu First Nation community hall

KAKISA (September 30, 2016) - Today, residents, elders, youth and visitors celebrated the official opening of the new Ka’a’gee Tu First Nation community hall.

The community hall is a key piece of infrastructure as it hosts events organized by the Ka’a’gee Tu First Nation and attracts many visitors, including those from surrounding communities. The former facility was designed for only 50 people and did not have the capacity for larger events

GNWT proposes departmental restructuring

YELLOWKNIFE (September 19, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is working on organizational restructuring proposals as part of ongoing efforts to ensure it remains on a fiscally sustainable path for the future. Proposals include the amalgamation of the departments of Public Works and Services (PWS) and Transportation (DOT) into a single infrastructure department and the merging of corporate services functions currently carried out by the departments of Executive, Finance, Human Resources, and Aboriginal Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations.

Open house and committee meeting in Hay River promotes visibility and accessibility of Cabinet

HAY RIVER (September 8, 2016) – Premier Bob McLeod and the entire Cabinet met residents of Hay River during an open house held in Hay River last Thursday, September 1, 2016. The open house was preceded by a public meeting of the Environment and Economy Committee of Cabinet (COC) chaired by Minister Wally Schumann.
