First Territorial Health Behaviours in School-Aged Children Report Released

New Financial Literacy Curriculum Launched

YELLOWKNIFE (November 5, 2012) – The Honourable Jackson Lafferty, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) today announced a new curriculum designed  to help people gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to manage their personal finances.

The new curriculum was developed by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) at the suggestion of the NWT’s three operating mines and meets a need they identified for financial literacy training for their staff.

Minister of Education, Culture and Employment calls for other jurisdictions to develop dedicated residential schools curriculum

YELLOWKNIFE (Wednesday, October 31, 2012) – To build on the success of the early October launch of the Northern Studies 10 curriculum, the Honourable Jackson Lafferty today officially introduced the materials to the public with a call to jurisdictions across Canada to develop their own dedicated residential schools curricula.

NWT continues flu clinics

Yellowknife (October 30, 2012) – All public influenza immunization clinics in the Northwest Territories will proceed as scheduled. The decision follows a Health Canada recommendation that flu vaccine made by the pharmaceutical firm Novartis not be used pending a review of the discovery of clumping of particles in the vaccine in Europe.

New egg-grading facility will help diversify and grow NWT economy

HAY RIVER (October 29)– A new federally-certified egg-grading station for the Northwest Territories officially opened Friday in Hay River.  

In cutting the ribbon to the state-of-the-art facility on Friday, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay noted that its operation will position the NWT to benefit from the National Regulated Egg Marketing Program and the market opportunities it offers.
