Graduates from Recreation Leader Certificate Program Recognized

YELLOWKNIFE (October 15, 2012) – The Minister of the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs recently recognized graduates of the School of Community Government’s Community Recreation Leaders Certificate Program and Recreation Leaders completing Occupational Certification in the recreation field. Four NWT residents were recognized this year and will go on to continue to develop recreation programs in communities across the NWT.

GNWT Exceeds Greenhouse Gas Emissions Target

YELLOWKNIFE (October 11, 2012) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has exceeded its greenhouse gas emissions target. The 2007 NWT Greenhouse Gas Strategy set a target to reduce emissions from GNWT operations to 10 percent below 2001 levels by the year 2011. Actual reductions were 30 percent lower, from 54 kilotonnes (Kt) in 2001 to 37 Kt from GNWT operations in 2011. “We are committed to responsible stewardship of our environment, to help it sustain present and future generations,” said Environment and Natural Resources minister J.

Inuvik’s East Three School Official Grand Opening

INUVIK (October 10, 2012) – This morning marked the official grand opening of Inuvik’s new super school, East Three.

“Students need sound infrastructure with a healthy and safe environment to learn and grow in,” said the Honourable Jackson Lafferty, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment. “A new school means a fresh start for the community and endless possibilities for students. I want to congratulate everyone involved with this project, and thank them for all their hard work.” 

Reel improvement in film industry heralded at Yellowknife Film Fest

YELLOWKNIFE (September 27, 2012) -- The Yellowknife Film Festival kicks off tonight, and Minister David Ramsay will be in attendance – in film form – to give his congratulations to Western Arctic Moving Pictures and the NWT Professional Media Association on behalf of the NWT Film Commission. The NWT Film Commission will also be a panel member at the first-ever NWT Filmmaker and Producer Forum, to provide information about the commission and discuss what has been achieved in the past year.
