Taking care of the NWT’s forests - an International Forest Film Festival

September 20, 2011 -  ENR is hosting an International Forest Film Festival to showcase forests around the world as part of the International Year of the Forests.

The films are being screened at Northern United Place and start at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free, and each evening’s entertainment will run about two hours long.

Here is a list of films, the dates they will be shown, and the country of origin for the films.

Minister Appoints Public Administrator to Beaufort –Delta Health and Social Services Authority

September 19, 2011 - Minister of Health and Social Services J. Michael Miltenberger has appointed Peter Clarkson Public Administrator for the Beaufort-Delta Health and Social Services Authority.

Mr. Clarkson is the former mayor of Inuvik and current Regional Director for the Department of the Executive in Inuvik. The Public Administrator assumes the responsibilities of a governing body with respect to operations and finance for the Authority.

Community Health Representatives are ‘Lifelines to a Healthy Lifestyle’

September 15, 2011 - Today is National Community Health Representatives (CHR) Day - a celebration of the dedication and commitment that CHRs have towards teaching, encouraging and supporting healthy style life choices to the people within their communities. The theme for this year is “CHRs – Lifelines to a Healthy Lifestyle.”

NWT Labour Force Activity

September 12, 2011 - For August 2011, Statistics Canada estimates that 23,500 out of 32,200 residents 15 years of age and older were employed in the Northwest Territories, representing an employment rate of 73.0%. Overall, Canada’s employment rate stood at 63.0% in August. Compared to July 2011, employment in the NWT rose by 300 persons.
