The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting the public to review and provide feedback on proposed draft regulations under the Post-Secondary Education (PSE) Act.

The PSE Act establishes the framework to recognize post-secondary education institutions in the Northwest Territories (NWT), including universities and colleges. The Act received assent in 2019 and is awaiting the finalization of regulations to be brought into force in fall 2022.

A new parking payment system will become operational at the Yellowknife Airport starting September 19, 2022 at 8 a.m. At that time, all vehicles will be required to get a ticket to enter the lots and pay a fee to exit.

Vehicles parked in the lot located across from the terminal building prior to the system coming into effect will be allowed to exit free of charge until October 2, 2022 (inclusively).

Vehicles remaining in the lot after October 2, 2022 will be required to pay a fee of $150.00 to exit the lot.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is making grant funding of up to $2500 available to support events that commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2022. 

This initiative provides special, application-based grant funding to support Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations to plan and deliver National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events in communities and locations across the Northwest Territories (NWT).  

The deadline for applications is September 2, 2022. 

The public is invited to comment on two proposed re-listings and a draft management plan under the Species at Risk (NWT) Act.

The Act provides a process to assess which wild species are at risk of disappearing from the Northwest Territories (NWT), identify threats facing those species, and identify actions to help them recover.

LISTING PROPOSALS

The Psychology Profession Regulations came into force today, making psychologists the second profession to be regulated under the Health and Social Services Professions Act, which that came into force in March 2022. The Act enables the government to regulate numerous professions under a single law.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking members for the Student Financial Assistance Appeal (SFA) Board, for terms beginning December 1, 2022.

The Government of the Northwest Territories is gathering public feedback on proposed amendments to the Territorial Parks Regulations (TPR).

The proposed changes address safety, environmental, administrative, and technical improvements that have been identified in the ongoing operation of NWT parks.

They include: the clarification of existing fee structures, the addition of minimum age requirements for camping permits, definitional clarifications and the addition of more flexible operational language.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report on the department’s 2022 review of the Fire Prevention Act.  The report includes a summary of feedback received from engagement with stakeholders and members of the public that took place between May 26 and June 23, 2022.

Input from the engagement will inform the development of legislative amendments. MACA intends to make amendments to the FPA within the life of the 19th Legislative Assembly.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is looking for four individuals with a passion for the arts, culture, and heritage to join the Northwest Territories (NWT) Arts Council for a two-year term.

Application deadline has been extended to September 15, 2022 at 5 pm (MST).

Council members provide recommendations to the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) on financial awards for creative artistic projects in the visual, literary, media and performing arts, and on issues and policies associated with the arts and artists.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the 2022-23 Northwest Territories (NWT) Youth Ambassadors Program. The program provides NWT youth with opportunities to build leadership skills through participation at special events and volunteer assignments. In the past, NWT Youth Ambassadors have attended the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games, and the North American Indigenous Games.
