Lifejacket loaner station newest addition to Fred Henne Beach

YELLOWKNIFE (July 24, 2013) - A Lifejacket Loaner Station program will pilot this August at Fred Henne beach, providing free lifejackets for the public to borrow and then return after use for other patrons.

The GNWT is working in partnership with the Lifesaving Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (Lifesaving Society), Canada’s expert on water safety, to put the pilot program in place. This is the first time a Lifesaving Society lifejacket loaner station will pilot in the Northwest Territories.

GNWT reviews beach safety

YELLOWKNIFE (July 5, 2013) – The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) is undertaking a review of the use of the beaches at Fred Henne and Hay River Territorial Parks.

“Last week our community faced the tragic loss of a young boy at Long Lake,” said Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister David Ramsay.  “We offer our sincere condolences to his family during this extremely difficult time.”

GNWT and De Beers Canada sign Socio-Economic Agreement for Gahcho Kué

YELLOWKNIFE (June 28, 2013) - The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and De Beers Canada (DBC) have signed a Socio-Economic Agreement (SEA) for the proposed Gahcho Kué Project in the North Slave Region. The SEA relates to DBC’s plans to establish a mine and related facilities at Kennady Lake for the commercial production of rough diamonds.
