Sahtu Oil and Gas Development Update

(February 25, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, oil and gas development has the potential to grow and diversify the Northwest Territories economy, a key priority of this Government.  Nowhere has this reality been more apparent than in the Sahtu Region. Today I would like to give this Assembly an update on the activity in the Sahtu over the past few months and the plans for moving forward.

2012 Territorial Parks Survey Results

(February 21, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, consistently investing in parks infrastructure is essential to strengthen and diversify our economy. Parks improvements ensure more people visit our communities, spend money at our local businesses, and spread the word about our spectacular territory. The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment maintains 33 Territorial Parks, and today I am pleased to share the highlights of an online survey conducted this past summer that show our investments are paying off.

Mineral Development Strategy Update

(February 14, 2013) - Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories has long been recognized as a land rich in resource potential. One of the priorities of this Assembly is to strengthen and diversify the economy and, as part of that priority, we identified the need to have a comprehensive, environmentally sustainable Mineral Development Strategy in place.

GNWT in Rough Diamond Allocation Discussions with Dominion Diamond Corporation

YELLOWKNIFE (February 6, 2013) The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is in active discussions with Harry Winston Diamond Corporation, soon to be renamed Dominion Diamond Corporation (DDC).  These discussions are the first step in securing a formal diamond allocation agreement with DDC for a portion of production from their diamond mining interests in the NWT.
