NWT potential touted at Offshore Technology Conference in Houston

HOUSTON (May 10, 2013) Northwest Territories’ resource potential was front and centre at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas this week.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment David Ramsay and Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure Robert Hawkins attended the conference, which is focused on offshore resource development and attracts more than 80,000 attendees, many of whom are global leaders in the oil and gas industry.

NWT has significant presence at Northern Scene in Ottawa

YELLOWKNIFE (April 26, 2013) – Northwest Territories (NWT) Commissioner George Tuccaro and Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Jackson Lafferty took part in the launch of Northern Scene at the National Arts Centre (NAC) yesterday. More than 70 artists from multiple disciplines will be representing the NWT during the festival, which will be held in Ottawa from April 25 to May 4, 2013.

GMVF Program Results in Record Prices for NWT Fur

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON (April 19) - Record prices for Northwest Territories (NWT) furs marketed under the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur (GMVF) label means strong returns to NWT trappers.

In a reflection of the fur world’s increasing demand for luxury goods, last month’s fur auction in Seattle was the most successful sale in the history of the Fur Harvesting Association and will result in a total projected return to NWT trappers of almost $1.5 million.

Online Reservations for NWT campgrounds to open Friday, April 19 at noon

YELLOWKNIFE (April 19, 2013) People eager to book camping spots online in select parks throughout the Northwest Territories will have their opportunity starting at noon today.

Most parks in the South Slave, North Slave, Dehcho and Inuvik Regions are available for online booking. To book a campsite, campers must first register on www.campingnwt.ca. Booking is as simple as selecting a park, clicking the camping date and selecting the available site. Registration will also open at noon on Friday.

NWT rated best overall improvement in Canada for mineral investment

YELLOWKNIFE (March 15, 2013) – The world is taking notice of the Northwest Territories’ mineral potential, with the territory ranking 29th most attractive jurisdiction for mineral exploration and development in the world and the best overall improvement in Canada according to the Fraser Institute's 2012-2013 annual survey of mining companies.

Deadline for Public Input on Economic Opportunities Extended

YELLOWKNIFE (March 6, 2013) The deadline to provide written submissions on the NWT Economic Opportunities Strategy has been extended to March 31. NWT residents and organizations can submit their feedback on the economic opportunities and barriers they see in their communities and regions via the Strategy website.

Minister of Industry Tourism and Investment David Ramsay says grassroots input is critical to ensuring that the Economic Opportunities Strategy reflects the needs of all regions and sectors in the NWT.
