Inuvialuit Settlement Region Land Use Permit is required to conduct a land use activity on Territorial lands that is above the threshold set out in the Northwest Territories Land Use Regulations. 

Land use permits are issued by the Department of Environment and Climate Change on Territorial lands and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation on Inuvialuit lands.

The Government of Northwest Territories is developing a recreation management plan for the lands outside and around Yellowknife, Detah, and Ndılǫ that are well-used for outdoor recreation. Finalizing the plan for the Yellowknife periphery area is identified in the mandate of the 18th Legislative Assembly.

The Department of Environment and Climate Change is responsible for managing recreational leasing on public lands across the NWT.
