YELLOWKNIFE, NT /WHITEHORSE, YT/IQALUIT, NU (September 22, 2017) – Northwest Territories Premier Bob McLeod, Yukon Premier Sandy Silver and Nunavut Premier Peter Taptuna today released the Pan-Territorial Vision for Sustainable Development. In it, they declare that residents of the territories deserve the opportunity to achieve the same aspirations for themselves and their families as other Canadians – including good health, high-quality education and sustainable middle class jobs.

YELLOWKNIFE (September 5, 2017) – Premier Bob McLeod today announced the appointment of Bruce Cooper as the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services (HSS) for the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

Mr. Cooper comes to the GNWT from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL) with over a decade of experience as an executive in the public service, including five years as Deputy Minister of Health and Community Services. He is currently Deputy Minister of the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development for the GNL.

YELLOWKNIFE (August 24, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories will be hosting public meetings during the month of September in order to continue gathering input from NWT residents on cannabis legalization.

The input collected at the public engagement sessions will build on the approximately 1,000 responses already received from the online cannabis survey. Together, the information gathered will help guide the GNWT as we make specific plans, including developing the new legislation that will be needed for cannabis.

YELLOWKNIFE (July 11, 2017) – NWT residents are being asked to provide their views on how the Northwest Territories will safely regulate cannabis and to comment on proposed principles to guide how the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) addresses cannabis legalization.  Residents can provide their views through a new website launched by the GNWT this week.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 31, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a new Public Engagement and Transparency website as part of its ongoing commitment to increase accountability and transparency. The new website improves the GNWT’s approach to reporting on ministerial travel expenses and meetings with outside parties.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 26, 2017) – Premier Bob McLeod announced today that government negotiators have new land claim offers to both the Akaitcho Dene First Nation (ADFN) and the Northwest Territory Métis Nation (NWTMN) that incorporate recommendations from the Ministerial Special Representative, Tom Isaac. The two offers provide for flexibility so that the priorities of all parties can be achieved.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories made a commitment in its mandate to work to resolve outstanding land, resources and self-government agreements during the term of our government. I would like to update Members today on the work our government is doing to fulfill that commitment.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 19, 2017) – Premier Bob McLeod, Minister Wally Schumann, Minister Robert C. McLeod, Minister Caroline Cochrane, Minister Alfred Moses and Minister Louis Sebert met with the Tłįchǫ Government, Grand Chief Eddie Erasmus, Chief Clifford Daniels, Chief David Wedawin, Chief Johnny Arrowmaker and Chief Alfonz Nitsiza in Behchokǫ̀ on Wednesday. 

YELLOWKNIFE (May 15, 2017) – Louis Sebert, Minister Responsible for Public Engagement and Transparency, wants to hear from residents about how the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) can be more open.

The public is invited to contribute to the development of an Open Government policy and how the GNWT engages with you.
