Have Your Say on Agriculture Funding in the NWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is partnering with the Government of Canada to develop its next agriculture funding policy framework.

Through the Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP), the GNWT will host engagements on various platforms until March 31, 2022.

The next five-year national policy for agricultural funding in the Northwest Territories (NWT) is currently under development with agriculture partners and stakeholders and will contribute to realizing the vision and goals of the NWT Agriculture Strategy.

Manufacturing Contribution Recipients Announced

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) Manufacturing Innovation and Technology Contribution.

As a dedicated action in the Northwest Territories Manufacturing Strategy (2019-2024), the Contribution is intended to support and encourage innovation in the NWT manufacturing sector by supporting research into existing and emerging technologies.

Mining Incentive Program Funding Recipients Announced

This fall, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) partnered with the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor) to provide additional incentive funding for advanced mineral exploration projects in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

In August 2021, CanNor confirmed new funding of $500,000 to support a second winter call for Mining Incentive Program (MIP) applications in 2021-22. This increased the total program budget for the current fiscal year to $1.5 million.

Tourism Licensing Renewal Fees Waived for Third Year Running

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has waived tourism renewal licensing fees for the third year in a row, as the global pandemic continues to impact the tourism industry.

Under the Tourism Act, all tourism operators providing commercial tourism activities in the Northwest Territories (NWT) are required to have a valid Tourism Operator Licence (TOL) with prescribed support documents including proof of insurance.

Fred Henne Territorial Park Operators Receive 2021 Park Operator of the Year Award

The recipient of the Government of Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) 2021 Park Operator of the Year Award is Bottomline Events Planning, run by Lisa Tesar and Lona Collins.

This past summer, the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) received substantial feedback from campers that the team at Fred Henne Territorial Campground operates a clean, safe and active campground, providing visitors of all ages with a variety of activities and experiences. 

Tourism Marketing and Infrastructure Programs Open for Applications

YELLOWKNIFE (December 1, 2021) – As part of its ongoing support for tourism marketing and infrastructure programming, the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Tourism Product Diversification and Marketing Program (TPDMP) and the Community Tourism Infrastructure Contribution (CTIC) program are officially open for submissions.

Bookkeeping Initiative Relaunched for NWT Businesses

Today the Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) announced the relaunch of its successful bookkeeping initiative to support businesses in accessing financial planning advice.

Eligible businesses can apply for up to $7,500 or 90 per cent of the actual cost for obtaining the financial and technical advice required to allow them to make informed investment decisions, and better position themselves for sustainability and growth.
