Renewed and Expanded Funding for Food Production in the Northwest Territories

A renewed funding partnership between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will see an investment of $7.6 million to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and resiliency of the agriculture, agri‐food sector in the Northwest Territories (NWT) over the next five years.

GNWT hosts Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur Forum

On March 28-30, northern harvesters are invited to the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur forum (GMVF) at the Chief Drygeese Centre in Dettah.

This gathering brings together people involved in the NWT fur industry to exchange knowledge, discuss ways to support and enhance the GMVF program, and contribute to the growth and resilience of the northern traditional economy. Each day of the forum features a different theme: where we are now, where we are going, and how we get there.

Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories Business Development and Investment Corporation, or BDIC, is excited about business development and digital transformation opportunities in the territory.  As we shift to a digital economy where consumers are purchasing more goods and services online, looking for e-commerce convenience, and expecting vendors to personalize offerings, there is a greater need to support businesses to establish or increase their online presence.

Extended-Stay Campsite Draw for Prelude and Reid Lake Territorial Campgrounds

The annual ballot draw for 2023 extended-stay campsites at Prelude and Reid Lake Territorial Parks will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at the École Allain St-Cyr Gymnasium in Yellowknife. 

Doors will open from 1 p.m. to 2:25 p.m. for registration and completion of ballots.  The draw will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Ten full-season campsites and 80 half-season campsites will be available as follows:  

Applications Open for 2023-2024 NWT Mining Incentive Program

The Northwest Territories Geological Survey is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 Northwest Territories (NWT) Mining Incentive Program. 

The Mining Incentive Program provides funding support to prospectors and exploration companies who propose a new exploration project or are already carrying out mineral exploration work in the NWT.

The deadline for applications is April 28, 2023.

Mr. Speaker, last month I attended the annual Association for Mineral Exploration Roundup conference in Vancouver with fellow Cabinet Members and government officials. We were there to advance this Legislative Assembly’s priorities to increase resource exploration and development in our territory; adopt a benefit retention approach to economic development; make strategic infrastructure investments; and, to identify, prioritize, and strengthen key actions to implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
