Mr. Speaker, the Northwest Territories has significant and varied energy resources. As Canada's gas and Liquefied Natural Gas industry takes steps towards competing in the global market, NWT resources are positioned to both improve energy security locally and help Canada compete.

The responsible development of these resources will also create meaningful jobs for residents, opportunities for businesses, and sources of revenue to support territory-wide public programs and services for NWT residents.

YELLOWKNIFE (MAY 24, 2018) — The first-ever Geoscience Field Assistant Training Program began last week in Yellowknife.

Eight participants, supported by eight employer sponsors have signed on to take the five-week, classroom-based course, to be followed by 160 hours of on-the-job training.  The Mine Training Society will offer wage subsidies of $21/hour to employers for the on-the-ground portion.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is celebrating Tourism Week by recognizing – and rewarding – NWT residents whose actions and initiatives embody our northern spirit and make visitors feel welcome.

The NWT Host Contest invites participants to nominate someone via social media for a chance to win that person $250.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 9, 2018) – The first of Northwest Territories (NWT) campgrounds will open for the season beginning May 11, 2018. It could be the best season yet for NWT Parks, which saw record numbers of reservations in the first two days of online booking.

YELLOWKNIFE (May 1, 2018) – The Government of the Northwest Territories has released its broad vision related to energy and climate change in the Northwest Territories.

The GNWT recognizes that NWT residents are concerned about the impacts of climate change and is committed to a government-wide approach that takes into account northern energy demands and the cost of living, while reflecting international and national commitments to lower greenhouse gas emissions, exploring options for carbon pricing systems, and capturing local alternatives.

Before I get in too deep, I want to give you a brief introduction to our territory.  The Northwest Territories is among Canada’s largest jurisdictions.

We have 1.3 million square kilometres of land and the total population of a small city. What we lack in population we make up for in resources. 

YELLOWKNIFE (April 10, 2018) – Camping enthusiasts can begin booking sites at Northwest Territories (NWT) Parks this week:

• Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 10:00am MST for all parks except Fred Henne;
• Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10:00am MST for Fred Henne bookings.

YELLOWKNIFE (April 9, 2018) - Approximately $5.6 million will be invested in developing the Northwest Territories (NWT) agriculture sector under the new five-year Canadian Agriculture Partnership (CAP) announced Tuesday.

Mr. Speaker, the expansion and growth of the Northwest Territories’ manufacturing sector offers a means to diversify the economy and encourage greater economic development and investment.

For that reason, our government has committed to developing a northern Manufacturing Strategy in collaboration with industry and the NWT’s Manufacturers’ Association.
