Public feedback on the 2030 Energy Strategy and the 2030 NWT Climate Change Strategic Framework, including the Northwest Territories (NWT) greenhouse gas emissions reduction target, has been released.
As of April 30, 2024, vehicles that have been parked in the Inuvik Mike Zubko Airport parking lot for more than three months will be considered abandoned and towed at the owner’s expense, unless arrangements are made with the airport manager.
Starting May 1, 2024, drivers who want to leave their vehicle in the airport parking lot for more than one month will need to make arrangements with the airport manager to do so. Otherwise, any vehicles left for more than one month will be considered abandoned and removed from the parking lot at the owner’s expense.
Marine Transportation Services (MTS) has set its cargo acceptance dates and cargo rates for customers ahead of the 2024 sailing season.
Cargo acceptance dates are the final dates MTS will accept cargo for delivery to the communities it serves in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Cargo rates are what MTS charges customers to ship cargo to the communities.

The use of ELDs became mandatory in 2023 to monitor the driving and rest times of drivers operating large commercial vehicles, replacing the paper log system where logbooks are filled out by hand and kept in the vehicle. The Summary Conviction Procedures Regulations must now be amended to outline conviction procedures for the misuse of ELDs.

After seven sailing seasons providing reliable, this commitment has not wavered.

Mr. Speaker, secure, affordable, and sustainable, that is the vision for energy in the Northwest Territories outlined in the 2030 Energy Strategy a vision for an energy system that is less dependent on fossil fuels and that contributes to the economic, social, and environmental well-being of the NWT and its residents. Since the Energy Strategy was released in 2018, the Government of the Northwest Territories and the entire territory have made positive strides in realizing that vision.
The North is experiencing climate warming faster than anywhere in Canada, and residents, businesses and governments across the Northwest Territories (NWT) are answering this call to action. Today, the Departments of Environment and Climate Change (ECC) and Infrastructure (INF) are releasing annual reports on climate action, energy that outline progress made in the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
