The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) extends best wishes to Team NT as they prepare to proudly represent communities across the Northwest Territories at the 2026 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) in Whitehorse, Yukon, from March 8 to 15, 2026. This year’s delegation highlights representation from small and remote communities and the introduction of Team NT’s first formal Eligibility Policy, implemented to ensure fairness, transparency, and safety in team selection.
Applications are open for the Tundra Science and Culture Camp. This is an immersive, educational program for high-school-aged students, and educators, from the NWT.
The program is delivered by leaders in Indigenous culture and environmental science who collaborate to provide a unique, on-the-tundra cultural and multidisciplinary learning experience. These leaders include Tłı̨chǫ elders, GNWT experts and educators in their fields, environmental stewards, and on-site graduate student researchers.
The Tłı̨chǫ Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly assess the potential for a Tłı̨chǫ Government-owned hydroelectric project on the La Martre River.

The Northwest Territories (NWT) Community Planning Framework has been named a finalist for the 2026 Canadian Awards for Planning Excellence. Released in September 2025, the NWT Community Planning Framework encourages the use of community planning tools to engage residents, build local capacity, and support development goals, while considering relationships across economic development, climate change, housing, healthy communities, and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has received lead testing results for Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Elementary School (LKES) in Fort Simpson.
LKES testing has confirmed that two water fixtures show lead levels above the MAC. As a result, the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (OCPHO) has issued a Public Health Order for the school.
