Premier Presents Northwest Territories Diamonds to Their Royal Highnesses

July 5, 2011 - Northwest Territories (NWT) Diamonds will serve to commemorate the 2011 visit of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to the NWT and Canada.  In Yellowknife, this afternoon, NWT Premier Floyd K. Roland presented the Royal couple with northern-mined diamonds on behalf of the Territory and its people. 

Royal Welcome to Represent and Showcase all of NWT

July 4, 2011 - All regions, peoples and cultures of the Northwest Territories will be represented and showcased to Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they arrive tomorrow in the NWT capital.

“We're looking forward to introducing Their Royal Highnesses to some of what makes the NWT such a unique and wonderful place,” Premier Floyd Roland says. “We have made a special effort to involve residents from across the NWT in every event on the program.”

Aviation Career Development Program Expands to Nunavut

June 30, 2011 - Students in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories training for careers in northern aviation can now apply for one of thirteen (13) $5,000 scholarships through the Aviation Career Development Program (ACDP).

The Government of Nunavut will provide four scholarships for residents of Nunavut. Peter Taptuna, Minister of Economic Development & Transportation, says the commitment will help ensure Nunavummiut receive the training and education they need to play a role in the territory’s air transportation system.

National Strategy on Inuit Education Released

June 29, 2011 - The National Strategy on Inuit Education has officially been released. The strategy, developed in association with the GNWT’s Department of Education Culture and Employment (ECE), includes a series of bold new recommendations to empower parents, expand early childhood programs and gather detailed research data.

The ultimate goal of the strategy is to increasing graduation rates and opportunities amongst the Inuit population in the Canadian Arctic.

Our Health, Our Future – Engaging NWT residents in a discussion on healthy weights and obesity among children

June 27, 2011 - Media are invited to attend an event being held in Dettah to address healthy eating, physical activity, healthy weights and obesity in children.

The event is being hosted by the Department of Health and Social Services and is part of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Childhood Obesity Engagement Strategy referred to as Our Health, Our Future: A National Dialogue on Healthy Weights.

Celebrating Home Support Workers – June 28, 2011

June 27, 2011 - Home Support Workers across the Northwest Territories are being recognized tomorrow (June 28th) on Home Support Worker Day. 

Home Support Workers support daily living activities and provide health services to NWT residents in their own homes and communities. Their services enable residents to enjoy the independence and comfort of their own home as long as possible before entering a hospital or long term care facility which may not be located in their community.
