May 9, 2011 - National Nursing Week May 9 to 15, 2011 celebrates the quality health care services nurses provide in the Northwest Territories and across Canada.

This years’ theme for celebrating nursing in Canada is Nursing - The Health of Our Nation. Together, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners provide health services to the residents of the NWT.

ITI Minister to attend Offshore Technology Conference in Houston

May 2, 2011 - Industry, Tourism and Investment Minister Bob McLeod and Nunakput MLA and Standing Committee on Economic Development and Infrastructure member Jackie Jacobson, will be in Houston, Texas from May 2-5 attending the 2011 Offshore Technology Energy Conference.  Along with attending meetings with key industry stakeholders, they will promote oil and gas development in the Northwest Territories.

Report on Status of Species in the Northwest Territories Released

May 2, 2011 - Minister of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) J. Michael Miltenberger has released a report outlining the general status of more than 3400 wild species in the Northwest Territories.

The NWT Species 2011-2015 ranks all species in the NWT including mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles, plants and some insects and fulfills GNWT commitments under the Accord for the Protection of Species at Risk in Canada.

Fred Henne Park Awarded Readers Choice Award from RV West Magazine

May 2, 2011 - Fred Henne Territorial Park has been recognized as a Favourite Overall RV Destination in the 2011 Reader's Choice Awards from RV West Magazine.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Bob McLeod says the award is a significant accomplishment because it is awarded by people who have camped in the park and reflects the results and accomplishments of ITI park staff and contractors dedicated to ensuring that the park is kept in top-notch condition for visitors to enjoy.

South Slave Minister’s Regional Forum on Aboriginal Student Achievement Focuses on Revitalizing Language and Culture

April 28, 2011 - Language and culture revitalization was the focus of the South Slave Aboriginal Student Achievement (ASA) Minister’s Regional Forum on Hay River’s K’atlo’deeche First Nation Reserve, April 5 to 7, 2011.

This was the fifth in a series of forums hosted by the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty, to hear from community and youth representatives, educators and Aboriginal governments. Feedback from the forums will help direct development of territorial, as well as community specific, education plans.

Premier Release Responses on Key Election Issues

April 28, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland has released responses from federal leaders and candidates to his April 12th letter requesting their positions on issues of importance to the people of the Northwest Territories.

The Premier asked leaders of the federal political parties to respond to questions on Governance, Devolution, Economic Development, Fiscal priorities and Environmental concerns.
