Premier Meeting with the Aboriginal Affairs Working Group

April 18, 2011 - Today, in Ottawa, Premier Floyd K. Roland is meeting with the provincial and territorial ministers of Aboriginal Affairs and leaders from five national Aboriginal organizations to discuss progress and next steps in their plan to improve the quality of life for First Nation, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Realizing NWT Potential Requires Agreement on Devolution - Premier


April 15, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland says negotiations to devolve administrative responsibility for public lands and resources are about giving the future of the Northwest Territories (NWT) a chance.

“It’s about giving our young business people opportunities to grow their North and to achieve success,” the Premier told Members and guests of the Norman Wells Chamber of Commerce last night.

“The thing about potential is that that is all it is... until we take action and realize it.”

Premier Asks Federal Candidates for Positions on Key Issues


April 13, 2011 - Premier Floyd K. Roland has written to leaders of the federal political parties seeking their position on four key areas of importance to residents of the Northwest Territories (NWT).

He says Western Arctic voters need to know where their candidates and parties stand on questions regarding Governance, Economic Development, Fiscal priorities and the Environment.

New NWT Arts Council Members Announced

April 12, 2011 - Margaret Nazon of Inuvik, Vivian Edgi-Manuel of Fort Good Hope, Barb Tsetso of Fort Simpson, and Leela Gilday of Yellowknife – have been appointed to the NWT Arts Council by Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Jackson Lafferty.

“The impressive credentials and artistic talent of these individuals will help the NWT Arts Council to meet its mandate of promoting and supporting the abundance of artistic talent that exists in the Northwest Territories,” says Minister Lafferty.

Fort Smith Signs Up for Not Us! Anti-Drug Program

April 12, 2011 - Fort Smith is the latest NWT community to join together and say “Not Us” to drugs and alcohol.

Not Us! is a program of the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Department of Justice. It provides funding and support for individual communities who envision drug-free, healthy communities. It is designed to empower and support communities to fight local substance addictions issues.

Ministerial Portfolios

April 8, 2011 - Ministerial Responsibilities for the Status of Women have been assumed by Premier Floyd K. Roland effective today.

The Premier confirmed that all other Ministerial portfolios will remain unchanged – this includes the March 28, 2011 assignment of the Department of Health and Social Services and Responsibilities for Seniors, the Homeless and Persons with Disabilities to Minister J. Michael Miltenberger.
