Aboriginal Languages Month

March 2, 2011 - During Aboriginal Languages Month, residents across the Northwest Territories are encouraged to celebrate our Aboriginal languages and culture by spending time with elders and participating in community events.

“Languages are about identity – who we are and how we understand and interact with each other,” says Minister of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE), Jackson Lafferty. “Promoting Aboriginal languages encourages the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and family and cultural values.”

GNWT Enters Third Year of Waste Paper Products Initiative

March 1, 2011 - Applications are now being accepted for the third year of the Waste Paper Products Recycling Initiative in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The three-year funding initiative provides financial assistance to NWT municipalities, organizations, businesses, and individuals to initiate and develop innovative ways to reuse waste paper and cardboard products destined for landfills.

Minister Advances Mackenzie Valley Highway with Minister Strahl

February 22, 2011 - Putting forward the business case for federal investment in the Mackenzie Valley Highway was the primary focus when Transportation Minister Michael McLeod met with federal Transport Minister Chuck Strahl on Friday. The two Ministers were participating in the Western Transportation Advisory Council (WESTAC) meeting in Richmond, B.C.

Minister McLeod was following up on his November 2010 meeting with Minister Strahl on the Mackenzie Valley Highway, and the two Ministers had a productive discussion.

ECE Celebrates Education Week

February 21, 2011 - During the Aboriginal Student Achievement Minister’s Regional Forums, attendance has been identified as a concern, and to highlight the connection between attendance and student development and growth, the theme for this year’s Education Week, February 21-25, is: “Good Attendance. Good Education. Good Job.”
