Regional Minister’s Forum in Dettah

January 18, 2011 - The Regional Minister’s Forum for the Yellowknife, Dettah and N’dilo schools is kicking off in Dettah today, and will wrap-up on Thursday. Discussions will focus on the ASA priorities of early childhood education, family and student supports; Aboriginal language and culture; and literacy. Feedback collected at the Forums will be incorporated in the development of territorial, as well as community specific, education plans.

Presentation on Water Management and the Mackenzie River Basin

January 14, 2011 - There will be a special public presentation on water management and the Mackenzie River Basin next Tuesday in Yellowknife.

The presentation, The Last Great River – The Present and Future of the Mackenzie River Basin, will feature a variety of panel presenters, including GNWT Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Michael Miltenberger who will speak to the NWT Water Stewardship Strategy as a foundation for the future of the NWT and the North.

NWT Releases 2010 Student Assessment Results

January 13, 2011 - The NWT’s results for the 2010 Alberta Achievement Tests (AAT) and Functional Grade Level (FGL) were released today, and the GNWT is taking steps to address the areas of concern.

“The results are important indicators that help us track student performance and the success of the education system in the Northwest Territories,” says the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, Jackson Lafferty. “With the results, we are able to spot areas of concern and work to address them.”

Comment Deadline for New Safety Regulations Extended

January 13, 2011 - The comment deadline for the new NWT/Nunavut Safety Regulations will be extended to March 31, 2011. “Many members of the NWT Construction Association and the NWT Chamber of Commerce have requested more time to examine the potential effect that the proposed changes to the Safety Regulations will have in the NWT,” said Minister McLeod. “With the extension, stakeholders will have time to examine the proposed regulations in a coordinated manner and provide meaningful feedback to the Safety Regulation Review Committee.”

Release of Alberta Achievement Tests and Functional Grade Level Results

January 12, 2011 - The Department of Education, Culture and Employment invites all members of the media to attend a technical briefing on the release of the Alberta Achievement Tests (AATs) and Functional Grade Levels (FGLs) results for the 2009-2010 school year.
