Seeking Nominations for Regional Wellness Councils

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Lesa Semmler, is seeking nominations for vacancies on the Regional Wellness Councils for the Beaufort-Delta, Dehcho, Fort Smith, Hay River, Sahtu and Yellowknife regions.

The role of the Regional Wellness Council is to ensure residents from across the Northwest Territories have an opportunity to provide input into the territorial health and social services system. The councils help inform policy and programming decisions across the territory.

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking feedback to help guide the next five‑year agriculture policy framework, which will run from 2028 to 2033. This work builds on the current Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a federal, provincial, and territorial investment supporting a strong, sustainable, and resilient agriculture and agri‑food sector.

As summer gets underway across the Northwest Territories, the Government of the Northwest Territories is reminding residents that there’s more happening on summer roads than you think.

Warmer weather brings more people onto the roads, including cyclists, pedestrians, roadside workers, tourists, and increased highway traffic throughout the territory.

Have Your Say on Northwest Territory’s Potential Bid for the 2035 Canada Winter Games

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting residents to share feedback on whether the Northwest Territories (NWT) should submit a bid to host the 2035 Canada Winter Games.

A recent feasibility review explores what hosting the Games could involve, including potential opportunities to strengthen tourism, support infrastructure and housing development, generate economic activity, and showcase northern and Indigenous cultures on a national stage.

Increase to compliance and licensing fees and Deh Cho Bridge tolls

Phased increases to compliance and licensing fees and Deh Cho Bridge tolls are expected to come into effect starting June 15, 2026.

Compliance and licensing fees – including driver’s licence registrations and renewals and permits for electromechanical work – will increase by 6.7% on June 15, 2026. This reflects a 4.4% increase, plus the previous year’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 2.3%. From 2027 to 2030, these fees will increase annually on April 1 by 4.4% plus the previous year’s CPI.

Hay River Library Update

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is working with the Town of Hay River to support the continued delivery of public library services in the community.

Short-term staffing has been secured, which will allow for the re-opening of the Hay River Centennial Library on June 9, 2026. The library will open with modified hours, Monday to Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and limited services, which will include access to library books, online library resources and computers for internet use.
