Have your say on French language services in primary care

The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be gathering feedback as part of a compliance audit of French language communications and services in primary health care. The audit will focus on the experiences of patients, parents and caregivers who accessed, or attempted to access, primary care services in French between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Questions will be focused on:

Housing NWT Scholarship Applications Open

Applications are now open for the Housing NWT Memorial Scholarships.

Applications are open from April 2, 2025 till May 31, 2025, for the following scholarships:

  • Alfred Moses Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 per school year
  • Tom Williams Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 per school year

There are 12 scholarships available annually, with two awarded in each Housing NWT district as well as two in Yellowknife.

Updated NWT Cervical Cancer Screening Guidelines

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released updated NWT Cervical Cancer Screening Guidelines. As a key part of these updated screening guidelines, the GNWT has switched from using Papanicolaou (PAP) tests to human papillomavirus (HPV) tests.

HPV is a vaccine-preventable infection that can cause cancer. Not all HPV strains cause cancer, but there are high-risk HPV strains that can cause cells to change into cancer cells and should be monitored.

Applications open for muskox tag draw

YELLOWKNIFE (April 2, 2025) – Applications for muskox tags are being accepted for the 2025-26 hunting season as of April 1, 2025. Northwest Territories’ (NWT) residents with a Resident Hunting Licence or a General Hunting Licence are able to apply for muskox tags in the Sahtu and North Slave areas. Applications can be obtained at your regional Environment and Climate Change office. All applications must be postmarked before May 15, 2025.

Nominations Open for the 2025 GNWT Accessibility and Inclusion Award

NORTHWEST TERRITORIES (March 25, 2025) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting nominations for the 2025 GNWT Accessibility and Inclusion Award.

This annual award recognizes the outstanding contributions of an NWT resident who has helped improve accessibility and promote inclusion for persons with disabilities across the territory.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) reminds all eligible organizations that applications for the 2025 Anti-Poverty Fund are still being accepted until March 14 2025. This $1.75 million fund supports initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and building stronger communities across the NWT.
