New operating hours for Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre

Effective immediately, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre is now open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday and the last Saturday of every month to accommodate evening programming.

 

Regular operating hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and closed every Monday.

2025 Anti-Poverty Fund Applications Now Open

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting funding applications for the 2025 Anti-Poverty Fund. This annual $1.75 million fund supports poverty reduction initiatives in communities across the NWT.

Who Can Apply:

  • NWT Indigenous governments and community governing authorities
  • Non-governmental organizations demonstrating partnership or support from an Indigenous or community governing authority.

GNWT releases What We Heard Report for proposed dental hygienist profession regulations under the Health and Social Services Professions Act

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report on proposed Dental Hygienist Profession Regulations. Between September 12, 2024, and October 14, 2024, dental hygienists, Indigenous governments, stakeholders, and the public shared their feedback on the proposed changes.

GNWT delaying re-opening of Northwest Territories Nominee Program

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will not be re-opening the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) on January 16, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. MST as previously indicated

On January 15, 2025, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment was informed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) nominee allotment for 2025 will be 150 – a 50% reduction from the 2024 figure of 300. 

Apply for funding for small and medium-scale arts projects and events

The Government of the Northwest Territories is now accepting funding proposals for the Small and Medium Arts Project Grant for the 2025-2026 fiscal year.

 

The Small Arts Project Grant provides up to $5,000 to emerging to mid-career artists, craftspeople, and small groups to cover costs for small-scale arts projects (e.g., traditional apparel, paintings, etc.) such as art supplies (e.g., beads, thread, furs, etc.) studio fees, illustration and design costs, and artistic development.

 

Northwest Territories Nominee Program to re-open January 16, 2025

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program will re-open its application intake on January 16, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. MST. Individuals can apply online through the application portal on the Northwest Territories Nominee Program website and applications will be processed in the order they are received. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

 

The Mentor-Apprentice Program is looking for new apprentices who want to learn their language

The Government of the Northwest Territories is now accepting applications from new apprentices for the Mentor-Apprentice Program.
 

The Mentor-Apprentice Program is a way of learning an Indigenous language where a fluent speaker of the language (a mentor) teaches a committed language learner (an apprentice) by doing everyday activities using only their Indigenous language. The program aims to increase apprentices' ability to understand and speak their language by “living life in the language.”
