What does the Social Assistance Appeal Board do?

This Board is the final level of appeal for people who have applied for a social assistance program and disagree with the decision made. The appeals are specifically related to the Income Assistance or Income Assistance for Seniors or Persons with Disabilities programs.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting nominations for the 2025 NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards.

The GNWT launched the Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards program in 1991 to recognize the great contributions volunteers make to the quality of life in the NWT. 

Nominations are accepted in four categories: Youth (under 25), Individual (25-54), Elder (55+) and Group.

The Office of the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) has lifted the Health Order previously in place at Range Lake North School, following confirmation that lead levels in drinking water no longer exceed Health Canada guidelines.

All fountains and fixtures used for drinking water and food preparation have been replaced, and follow-up testing has confirmed overall water quality. Standard operating procedures are being developed to support ongoing maintenance — including filter replacement and routine re-testing — to ensure the water remains safe over time.

The Department of Health and Social Services (HSS) has opened the 2025 Patient Experience Questionnaire to the public. The questionnaire is available to all northerners, in print and online.

The questionnaire has been designed to help the Health and Social Services system to better understand the quality of care provided to Northerners when receiving care in the Northwest Territories. Responses will help HSS improve services and monitor progress over time.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report following public engagement on the development of an Indigenous Procurement Policy.

Public engagement was conducted in April and May 2025, targeting feedback from NWT businesses and business organizations. Feedback was gathered through individual and public meetings, an online survey, and written submissions.
