GNWT Launches Dashboard to Track COVID-19, Flu, and RSV Trends

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a new visual dashboard to track the presence of COVID-19, Influenza (Flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Behchokǫ̀, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Norman Wells, and Yellowknife. This easy-to-use dashboard provides residents with clear visualizations, including graphs, to help them stay informed about viral trends in their community.

2024-2025 NWT Youth Ambassadors Program Call for Applications

The Government of the Northwest Territories is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 Northwest Territories (NWT) Youth Ambassadors Program. The program provides NWT youth with opportunities to build leadership skills through participation at special events and volunteer assignments.

In the past, NWT Youth Ambassadors have attended the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games, and the North American Indigenous Games. This cohort will have the opportunity to volunteer at the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Apply Now for the Trapper Mentorship Program

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the 2024 Trapper Mentorship Program.

The program, started in 2022, helps new trappers learn how to trap by pairing them with experienced trappers who teach important skills. Successful new trappers will receive a starter kit worth about $1,500. Mentors will receive $2,000 to help cover their costs.

Take a Kid Trapping Funding Available

Apply today for Take a Kid Trapping funding to help your organization get more kids out on the land!

Schools or Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations can apply for funding for specific projects.

These can range from practical skills like trapping, setting fish nets, hunting, or cooking outdoors to firearm safety, conservation education, and more. These activities teach traditional life skills, conservation, and best practices in the preparation of pelts for market.

Yellowknife Airport Tenant Service Fees to Increase

Starting October 13, 2024, fees for various tenant services at the Yellowknife Airport (YZF) will increase.

This includes services such as maintenance, first aid and extinguisher training and airside driver operator permit testing. The changes will also apply to fines for lost keys and passes, as well as float plane escort and docking services. In most cases, tenants have the option to either use YZF services or contract them out.
