GNWT and NTHSSA Recommend Residents Review Non-Urgent Dental Travel Plans Due to Limited Accommodations in Yellowknife

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services (NTHSSA) is recommending residents with non-urgent dental travel plans review their dental appointments and plan for a later date if they do not already have confirmation of accommodations for their travel. This recommendation is due to extremely limited accommodations in Yellowknife, which is a trend we are seeing more across the city, but especially common this time of year with enhanced travel and tourism.

March is National Nutrition Month

March is Nutrition Month! This year’s theme is Nourish to Flourish. The link between food and personal health cannot be underestimated, and it includes the connection between food and overall wellbeing, mental health, emotional resilience and social connections.

Registered dietitians play a vital role in nutrition guidance that supports the unique needs of NWT residents. Eating a variety of healthy food each day helps to manage weight, prevent illness, and promote overall wellbeing.

Have your say on the proposed regulations for the NWT Builders’ Lien Act

The GNWT is modernizing the legal framework for construction liens.  In 2023, the Builders’ Lien Act was enacted to replace the Mechanics Lien Act. The new legislation was put in place to address modern construction practices. It sets out the legal processes, systems, rights, and remedies for parties involved in construction disputes.

Repairs completed on Deh Cho bridge

Repairs on the Deh Cho Bridge on Highway 3 are now complete, and the bridge has fully reopened to two-lane traffic with no additional restrictions. Drivers are reminded to follow the posted speed limit.

The bridge had been limited to one-lane traffic with reduced speeds since August 2023 due to a broken cable. As part of the repair work, the GNWT replaced the broken cable and the adjustment bars for all 24 cables as a precaution. Additional work included repairing damaged guardrails, replacing lighting, and maintenance work on the north deck joint.
