Dates for Community Public Engagement on Cannabis Legalization

YELLOWKNIFE (September 15, 2017) – The Government of the Northwest Territories is hosting public meetings during the month of September to continue gathering input from NWT residents on cannabis legalization.

The input collected at the public engagement sessions will build on the responses already received from the online cannabis survey. Together, the information gathered will help guide the GNWT as we make specific plans, including developing the new legislation that will be needed for cannabis. 

Three Proponents Qualify to Submit Proposal for Tlicho All-Season Road Project

YELLOWKNIFE (September 13, 2017) – The Department of Finance would like to advise that the construction of the Tłįchǫ All-Season Road moved a step closer to reality today with the announcement by Finance Minister Robert C. McLeod that three proponents have qualified for the project, pursuant to the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Request for Qualifications.

The three proponents are:

·         Aurora Access Partners

·         NAE Transportation Partners

·         North Star Infrastructure

Consumer Protection Guide Launch

YELLOWKNIFE (September 5, 2017) - Today, the Consumer Affairs division of the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is announcing a new guide to consumer protection in the NWT entitled “Hey! That’s Not Fair!” The purpose of the guide is to help clarify and explain general consumer rights and responsibilities, how to pursue a complaint about a product or service, and information about consumer services available to NWT residents by the GNWT. The guide is available on MACA’s website at www.maca.gov.nt.ca.

Territorial Parks and Beach Attendants – Season Closure Dates

YELLOWKNIFE (September 1, 2017) – The 2017 Northwest Territories (NWT) Parks season is coming to a close.

The final day for the Beach Attendants program at Fred Henne Territorial Park beach is September 4. The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment wishes to thank this year’s attendants for their commitment to promoting water safety.

The input collected at the public engagement sessions will build on the approximately 1,000 responses already received from the online cannabis survey. Together, the information gathered will help guide the GNWT as we make specific plans, including developing the new legislation that will be needed for cannabis.

Dates for Public Engagement on Mineral Resources Act Announced

YELLOWKNIFE (AUGUST 21, 2017) —Northwest Territories (NWT) residents will have the chance to shape a strong, well-managed future NWT mining and exploration sector as the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) visits seven communities to collect their valued feedback.

These public sessions are designed to allow attendees to engage on various mining topics at their own pace, ask questions of GNWT subject matter experts, and provide comments on any topic related to mining and exploration in the NWT.

Call for 2017 NWT Fire Service Merit Award Nominees

YELLOWKNIFE (August 21, 2017) – The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is seeking nominations for the NWT Fire Service Merit Awards.

Based on nominations from community members, fire departments and fire chiefs, the NWT Fire Service Merit Awards honour and recognize individuals and community fire departments for their significant contributions to fire safety and fire service in communities across the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Construction Delays Expected on Yellowknife Access Road

Yellowknife (August 11, 2017) – The Department of Infrastructure would like to advise that road delays can be expected from August 14 to 18 on the Yellowknife Access Road due to road construction.

The project involves resurfacing a section of road in front of YK Motors, which will allow for a smoother drive. Motorists can expect delays as traffic will be reduced to two lanes.
