Ministerial Meetings and Travel Expenses for June 2018

YELLOWKNIFE (July 4, 2018) – As part of its ongoing commitment to increase accountability and transparency, the Government of the Northwest Territories launched the Public Engagement and Transparency website in the spring of 2017. This website responds to direction in the mandate of the Minister of Public Engagement and Transparency to promote awareness about information on government accountability.

Seeking Nominations for the Regional Wellness Councils

YELLOWKNIFE (June 27, 2018) – The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, is seeking nominations for four vacancies on the Regional Wellness Councils for the Beaufort-Delta, Hay River and Yellowknife.

The role of the Regional Wellness Council is to ensure residents from across the Northwest Territories have an opportunity to provide input into the territorial health and social services system. The councils help inform policy and programming decisions across the territory.

Yellowknife Public Meeting on the Aurora College Foundational Review

YELLOWKNIFE (June 27, 2018) - Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment will hold a public meeting on the recently released Aurora College Foundational Review Report in Yellowknife on June 28.  This is a chance for residents to learn about the Review Report, ask questions and provide their responses and concerns to the Minister.

Public Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Explorer Hotel, Katimavik Room B.

Call for Applications for the 2018-2019 Youth Ambassador Program

YELLOWKNIFE (June 19, 2018) – The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 Northwest Territories (NWT) Youth Ambassador Program. The program provides NWT youth with opportunities to build leadership skills through participation at special events and volunteer assignments.  In the past, NWT Youth Ambassadors have attended the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Winter Games, Canada Summer Games and the North American Indigenous Games.

Public Community Update on the Aurora College Foundational Review

FORT SMITH (June 5, 2018) - Thebacha MLA Louis Sebert and Caroline Cochrane, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment will hold a public meeting on the recently released Aurora College Foundational Review Report in Fort Smith on June 11.

This is a chance for residents to learn about the Review Report, ask questions and provide their responses and concerns to the Minister.

The town hall session will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at the Fort Smith Recreation Centre.

REDI information Trade Show in Yellowknife for Mining Week

YELLOWKNIFE (June 4, 2018) - Yellowknife residents will have an opportunity this week to discuss and ask questions about natural resources and energy in the Northwest Territories; and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT’s) approach to energy and resource development.

An “Information Tradeshow” is being staged this week as part of the GNWT’s Resources and Energy Development Information (REDI) initiative.

Engagement Session to be held on replacement of Frank Channel Bridge

BEHCHOKǪ̀ (May 30, 2018) – An engagement session will be held on the replacement of the Frank Channel Bridge. This is a chance for residents to learn about the replacement project and provide their input into the project.

Located on Highway 3, the Frank Channel Bridge was built in 1960. The bridge is structurally safe; however, the GNWT is planning to build a new bridge that will be designed and constructed to meet the needs and challenges of the future, including improved visibility, wider lanes, and improved overhead clearance for commercial vehicles.
