Take the Challenge and Unlock the Potential of Food as Fuel: Nutrition Month 2018

YELLOWKNIFE (February 26, 2018) – Across Canada, March is Nutrition Month, and this year, dietitians are helping Canadians realize the potential of food to improve health, fuel activities, and bring people together.

Almost half of all Canadians say that eating a healthy, balanced diet is challenging because they are so busy. They often skip meals, and close to 30 per cent of Canadians snack to keep fuelled in a busy day. Snacks, in healthy portions, can be part of a healthy eating plan.

Road closure planned in Inuvik for culvert replacement

INUVIK (February 21, 2018) – The Department of Infrastructure advises that the Inuvik Access Road (Hospital Hill) will be closed to all traffic, including emergency vehicles, beginning Thursday, February 22, 2018 for up to two months.

A full closure is required as crews will be excavating the road to replace a culvert, allowing for improved drainage and a smoother drive. All traffic will be detoured via the Marine Bypass Road/Navy Road as there is no detour around the immediate site.

GNWT Programs and Services for Persons with Disabilities Inventory

YELLOWKNIFE (February 20, 2018) — The Government of the Northwest Territories has released the Inventory of Programs and Services for Persons with Disabilities.

The inventory provides a list of programs and services available for persons with disabilities and their caregivers delivered by GNWT Departments, agencies, and partners. The inventory is a resource intended help persons with disabilities and their caregivers to maximize their use of the supports available in the NWT. 

Ministerial Meetings and Travel Expenses for January 2018

YELLOWKNIFE (February 9, 2018) – As part of its ongoing commitment to increase accountability and transparency, the Government of the Northwest Territories launched the Public Engagement and Transparency website in the spring of 2017. This website responds to direction in the mandate of the Minister of Public Engagement and Transparency to promote awareness about information on government accountability.

Increased Truck Traffic on Ingraham Trail (Highway 4)

YELLOWKNIFE (February 2, 2018) – The Department of Infrastructure is anticipating heavy industrial traffic along the Ingraham Trail (Highway 4), 24 hours per day until the end of March. Simultaneously, the Yellowknife area continues to see an increase in tourism and related traffic on Highway 4.                                                                                                                 

Delays expected on Highways 1 and 3 due to wide load trucks

YELLOWKNIFE (February 1, 2018) – The Department of Infrastructure advises of delays, lasting up to one hour, on Highways 1 and 3 on Friday, February 2, 2018. 

The delays are due to a scheduled convoy of three wide load trucks, which will leave the Alberta and Northwest Territories border (highway 1) around 11:00 a.m. and reach Yellowknife (highway 3) around 7:00 p.m.

Interior Design Concept Boards for New Stanton Hospital Complete

YELLOWKNIFE (February 1, 2018) - Interior design concept boards for the new Stanton Territorial Hospital are complete and available for public viewing.

The concepts were developed by Kasian Architects with input from a panel of regional NWT representatives. Engagement sessions took place in December 2016 and June 2017 to ensure that the designs accurately reflected the cultural needs of our population.

New Controlled Crosswalk Opens in Yellowknife

YELLOWKNIFE (January 23, 2018) - The Department of Infrastructure is pleased to announce the opening of a new controlled crosswalk at the intersection of the Chateau Nova Hotel and Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife.

This crosswalk – in addition to recently installed lighting and pedestrian pathway – greatly improves visibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists.
