Across Canada, March is Nutrition Month, and this year, dietitians are helping Canadians realize the potential for food to improve health, fuel activities, and bring people together.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting Northwest Territories (NWT) residents to have their say on the development of two action plans: an Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Sustainable Livelihoods Action Plan and a GNWT Traditional Knowledge Action Plan.
Today, the department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) announced the nomination deadline for this year’s Northwest Territories (NWT) Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This year marks the 29th year of this award, which recognizes and celebrates the remarkable contributions volunteers make in communities across the NWT.
Residents are encouraged to nominate an elder, youth, individual, or group of volunteers in their communities. This program acknowledges individuals who donate their time to improve the quality of life for NWT residents.
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be holding engagement sessions to gather input for possible mandatory entry-level training for new Class 1 and Class 2 drivers.
Currently, the GNWT does not have regulated training requirements for Class 1 or 2 licences.
Mandatory training could result in safer, more highly skilled drivers working in the truck and bus industries.

On November 28, 2018 at 1:55pm, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert Ready, the Northwest Territories public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, radio stations and cable networks across the NWT.
NWT Alert Ready is being developed to provide public alerts to NWT residents during emergencies and disasters and is part of the national public alerting system “Alert Ready”. The system is currently under development with full implementation planned for 2019.
YELLOWKNIFE (November 14, 2018) – Minister of Education Culture and Employment Caroline Cochrane will hold a public meeting in Yellowknife to discuss the Government of the Northwest Territories response to the Aurora College Foundational Review. The meetings will give Yellowknife residents an opportunity to hear about next steps in the transformation of Aurora College into a polytechnic university.
The construction of the Tłı̨chǫ All Season Road Project moves closer reality with the announcement today by Finance Minister Robert C. McLeod that North Star Infrastructure has been selected as the Preferred Proponent, pursuant to the GNWT’s Request for Proposal for the project.
The GNWT and NSI will be working together to finalize the Project Agreement and start the preparatory work required before construction can begin later the Fall of 2019.

The Minister of Health and Social Services, Glen Abernethy, has appointed Mr. Brian Willows of Hay River, as the new Public Administrator for the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority (HRHSSA) effective October 5th, 2018.
Mr. Willows replaces Mr. Maher who has served as Public Administrator since May 2009.
Mr. Willows brings a wealth of experience to the Public Administrator position including senior positions with the Northwest Territories Power Corporation that included overseeing an operating budget of $60 million annually.
