Mr. Speaker, ensuring Northwest Territories highways are a safe place for all road users is a top priority for the Government of the Northwest Territories. The challenges we face in regards to road safety are constantly evolving, and these challenges must often be met with unique and innovative solutions. In addition to the work undertaken each year to maintain and upgrade the engineering component of our highways, the Department of Infrastructure is also committed to staying up to date on policy and legislative initiatives aimed at making our roads safer.

Mr. Lefebvre has done a great job of outlining the details of the investments that our governments are making today.

As he mentioned, the Slave Geological Province is a region rich in mineral deposits. It is – in fact - the birthplace of Canadian diamonds.

Attending events like PDAC is important for our government. It provides an opportunity for us to showcase the Northwest Territories, promote the importance of mining and the benefits mining brings to the residents of the Northwest Territories, industry players, and Canada.

En fin de semaine, le ministre de l’Industrie, du Tourisme et de l’Investissement, Wally Schumann, qui est également ministre de l’Infrastructure, se rendra à Toronto en compagnie de représentants du gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest (GTNO) pour assister au colloque annuel de l’Association canadienne des prospecteurs et entrepreneurs (ACPE). Le colloque, qui se déroulera du 3 au 6 mars, est l’un des principaux rassemblements internationaux de l’industrie minière.

Mr. Speaker, securing funding to advance planning and construction of new transportation corridors is a key commitment in this government’s mandate. These transformative projects help to connect communities, support employment and training opportunities, increase our resiliency to climate change, and create new social and economic opportunities.

Today, I am pleased to provide an update on the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road project, an exciting new 97-kilometre highway that will provide year-round access to Whatı̀ from Highway No. 3.

Le ministre des Finances, Robert C. McLeod, a annoncé aujourd’hui la signature d’une entente entre le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord‑Ouest (GTNO) et North Star Infrastructure (NSI) pour la conception, l’aménagement, le financement, l’exploitation et l’entretien de la route toutes saisons de la région des Tłı̨chǫ.

I would like to welcome Madame Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue, and MP Michael McLeod to Yellowknife Airport, the largest airport in the Northwest Territories and the gateway to our communities and southern destinations.  

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories made a mandate commitment during this Legislative Assembly to continue to develop and advance initiatives to displace diesel generation in the NWT including advancing the Taltson Hydroelectricity Expansion project.
