Fort Liard is home to about 600 people and considered the garden spot of the North because of its warm weather and impressive vegetation.  The community is located along the Liard River in the foothills of the Mackenzie Mountains, 37kms north of the British Columbia border with year round road access. 

Students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 are taught at the Echo-Dene School in the community.
