Nahanni Butte is home to roughly 100 people and is named for the 1,400 metre high mountain that towers over the community.  Nahanni Butte is the only community in the Northwest Territories that requires water taxi access during the summer months, but accessible by ice road throughout the winter. 

Students in Nahanni Butte are taught at Charles Yohin School from Kindergarten through to Grade 10.
