Reporting on the conservation network
State of the Conservation Network Report
In 2016, the GNWT published the first report on the territory’s protected areas — known as the State of the Conservation Network. As of 2019, reports will be produced every five years on the state of the conservation network.
This includes information and data about:
-
Planning of the conservation network
-
Indicators of ecosystem health
-
Opportunities offered by the conservation network
It incorporates Indigenous, local, and scientific knowledge.
Why it matters
This reporting allows the government to assess the effectiveness of management approaches in protected and conserved areas, identify trends in environmental health, and make decisions on future actions to bolster the conservation network.
