Mr. Speaker, this Legislative Assembly has made it a priority to advance universal child care for residents of the Northwest Territories. In December 2021, we signed the Canada-NWT Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement, and since then we have worked closely with licensed early learning and child care programs and early childhood educators to advance this mandate.

New partnership between the GNWT and Canada Council for the Arts will strengthen arts and culture organizations in the NWT

The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) and the Canada Council for the Arts are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to support the growth and sustainability of the arts and culture in the Northwest Territories (NWT) through capacity-building and sector development.

Through this partnership, the Canada Council will provide the GNWT with a financial contribution of $750,000 over three years.

Have your say on the delivery of Global Tourism Management

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking input on two post-secondary education institution applications to deliver diploma-granting programs in the territory. College of Northern Canada is applying to provide a Global Tourism Management diploma program and Global Logistics diploma program within the Northwest Territories beginning in January 2024.

Have your say on the delivery of an Indigenous Environmental Studies and Sciences diploma program developed in partnership with the Yellowknives Dene First Nation

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking input on a post-secondary education institution application to deliver a diploma-granting program in the territory. Trent University is applying to provide an Indigenous Environmental Studies and Sciences diploma program within the Northwest Territories starting in Fall 2023.

Apply for an Indigenous Language Revitalization Scholarship

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting applications for the Indigenous Language Revitalization Scholarship.

Ten scholarships valued at $5,000 each will be awarded to eligible NWT students enrolled in certificate, diploma, degree programs, or other training that supports Indigenous language revitalization during the 2023-2024 academic year.

Priority will be given to NWT students enrolled in programs offered by accredited post-secondary institutions.

The application deadline is December 1, 2023, at 5 p.m.

Improvements to arts project funding for artists, craftspeople, and arts organizations

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is making changes to its arts project and arts operational funding to better support the arts sector, especially artists and craftspeople in small communities, and arts organizations.

These changes apply to arts funding programs administered by the Department of Education, Culture and Employment, but funding and marketing programs provided by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment that support economic development will not change

GNWT releases 2021-22 report on state of JK-12 education system

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (JK-12) Education System Performance Measures Technical Report for 2021-22.

This is an annual report on the state of the Northwest Territories (NWT) education system. It provides crucial data to help the GNWT and education bodies address students’ needs, and ensure we’re providing the supports and resources needed for students to thrive.
