Review of the Fire Prevention Act

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is seeking feedback from stakeholders and the public on a review of the Fire Prevention Act (FPA).

MACA has conducted  a thorough review of the Act and has drafted recommendations for potential revisions to the Act, as well as to the Plan Review process. Additionally consideration is being given to the development  of a building standards framework.

The public engagement on the review of the Fire Prevention Act begins May 26, 2022 and will conclude on June 16th, 2022.

Mr. Speaker, I would like to begin by saying that I along with several of my Cabinet colleagues, had the privilege of visiting Hay River, Kátł’odeeche First Nation, and West Point First Nation earlier this week to observe the damage caused by this year’s flooding in the South Slave region. I want to thank Mayor Jameson and Chief Martel for inviting and hosting us on our tour around your communities. Thanks also to MLAs Bonnetrouge and Simpson for accompanying us and demonstrating leadership for your communities.

Call for Applications for the 2022-2023 NGO Stabilization Fund

Shane Thompson, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), has announced the annual call for applications for the 2022-2023 NGO Stabilization Fund.

The NGO Stabilization Fund provides special funding intended to help NGOs stabilize or develop their capacity to manage the critical GNWT funded programs and services that they offer to the public.

YELLOWKNIFE (MAY 20, 2022; 17:00pm) -- Demand for overnight accommodations has ramped down – with those still accessing overnight spaces expected to leave tomorrow. 

With this development, Yellowknife evacuation centre overnight accommodations are being stood down for now.
