Have Your Say: Public Engagement on the Real Estate Agents’ Licensing Act

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is seeking feedback on the Real Estate Agents’ Licensing Act to determine if the Act provides adequate protection to consumers and the public while effectively regulating the real estate industry in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Input from the engagement will help determine whether the Act needs to be updated.

Shane Thompson: Arctic Winter Games 2023 and Canada Winter Games

Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the athletes, coaches, managers, and mission staff who represented Team Northwest Territories, better known as Team NT, at the 2023 Arctic Winter Games recently held in Wood Buffalo, Alberta. I also want to acknowledge those who are representing Team NT at the upcoming 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island, scheduled from February 18 to March 5.

Tsiigehtchic Community Status Change

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) is starting the process to change the status of the community government of Tsiigehtchic from a Charter to a Hamlet in accordance with Section 9(2) of the Hamlets Act.

This change will result in two distinct and separate government structures: a hamlet council and a band council. As a Hamlet, the authority and operations of the community government would be more easily defined and separated, and all residents that are eligible to vote will be able to vote and or run for the Mayor and Councillor positions.

Listening, Learning, Preparing For Next Time: GNWT Launches After Action Review of 2022 Flood Response

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) invites flood-affected residents, businesses, community governments, and those who participated in the emergency response to have their say on the Hay River and K’atł’odeeche First Nation reserve 2022 flood preparedness and response activities.

NWT ALERT TESTING

On November 16, 2022 at 1:55 pm MST, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will issue a live test of NWT Alert, the Northwest Territories (NWT) public alerting system. Residents may see and hear the public alert test on wireless devices, cable networks and radio stations across the NWT.

NWT Alert is the NWT’s public alerting system designed to keep our residents and visitors informed. For information during an emergency, check with your community government and visit www.NWTalert.ca.

By being a signatory to the 2019 Red Deer Declaration for the Prevention of Harassment, Abuse and Discrimination in Sport, we commit to do our part to ensure a Safe Sport environment for all participants in the Northwest Territories.

Communities in the Northwest Territories to benefit from improved critical community and recreational infrastructure

GNWT releases Fire Prevention Act Review “What We Heard” Report

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report on the department’s 2022 review of the Fire Prevention Act.  The report includes a summary of feedback received from engagement with stakeholders and members of the public that took place between May 26 and June 23, 2022.

Input from the engagement will inform the development of legislative amendments. MACA intends to make amendments to the FPA within the life of the 19th Legislative Assembly.
