NWT public servants recognized at Premier's Awards for Excellence

Yesterday, the 2023-2024 Premier’s Awards for Excellence were presented in the Great Hall of the Legislative Assembly.

The Government of the Northwest Territories' (GNWT) annual Premier’s Awards for Excellence recognize the outstanding achievements of employees and partners who strive for excellence and innovation in the public service. This year’s awards highlighted the contributions of those who have gone above and beyond in service to the people of the Northwest Territories.

Premier R.J. Simpson issues statement on passing of Honourable Murray Sinclair

Premier Simpson issued the following statement today on the passing of Honourable Murray Sinclair:

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of the Honourable Murray Sinclair. Mr. Sinclair was a prominent leader in Canada – the first Indigenous judge appointed in Manitoba, a respected lawyer, Senator and Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

 He will always be remembered for his unwavering commitment to reconciliation and dedication to championing human rights, justice, and truth.

Improvements made to ATLAS Interactive Web Map Viewer

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is introducing updates to its ATLAS interactive web map viewer to improve access to current information about the availability of land in the Northwest Territories.

The map viewer is an online tool that provides accurate mapping of each parcel of land in the Northwest Territories and displays real-time information about who administers the land and details about the parties interested in it. Some key improvements made to the system:

Apprenticeship awards celebrate graduates in trades

The annual Apprenticeship, Trades and Occupation Certification awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and top marks of apprentices and journeypersons across the NWT. This year, we recognize the top marks of 20 apprentices and 33 journeypersons, across 17 trades.

Each year, the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Apprenticeship, Trades and Occupation Certification awards are given for outstanding achievement during an apprenticeship or interprovincial Red Seal accomplishment. The recipients of this year's awards are:

Mr. Speaker, the Workers’ Protection Fund provides no-fault insurance coverage for employers and benefits and care for workers in the event of a workplace injury.

All employers share the cost of this compensation system by making payments based on their assessable payroll, which is the amount of earnings they report for each worker, and the group rate for their industry.
