GNWT to Subsidize Power Rate Increases

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) announced a $48 million dollar subsidy of $12 million per year over four years to the Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) to mitigate power rate increases for residents of the NWT.

This subsidy, in direct response to escalating power costs across the NWT, will offset impacts of rate increases proposed in NTPC’s General Rate Application (GRA), lowering the proposed rate increase from 24.8 percent to 15 percent.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released a What We Heard Report that summarizes feedback from the public and stakeholders on proposed amendments to the Health and Social Services Professions Act (HSSPA). Between July 29 and August 30, 2024, stakeholders and the public shared their views on the proposed changes.

Photographer Bob Wilson’s latest series ‘YK Centred’ will be on display in the Mezzanine Gallery at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre beginning December 6, 2024. The exhibit features 46 photographs of Yellowknife’s downtown core and invites viewers to see their environments in new and unexpected ways.

Call for members for the NWT Arts Council

Individuals from the South Slave, Dehcho, and Tłı̨chǫ regions with a passion for the arts, culture, and heritage are encouraged to apply to join the NWT Arts Council. Members will serve a two-year term beginning January 2025.

 

Council members provide recommendations to the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment on financial awards for arts projects in the visual, literary, media and performing arts, and on issues and policies associated with the arts and artists.

A fraud network called "SilkSpecter" has created over 4,700 fake online stores impersonating well-known brands like IKEA, The North Face, and Wayfair. These sites offer steep discounts to attract shoppers but are designed to steal your credit card details and other personal information.
