Northern leaders, working as the Intergovernmental Council (IGC), are working to identify and draft the regulations needed to bring the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) first Mineral Resources Act (MRA) into force by 2023.

Through the department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is working with leaders, stakeholders and organizations most involved and impacted by mining in the NWT to identify, research, and develop all of the regulations that will be required by the new Act.

Fire Ban for Yellowknife Parks

Due to continuing dry conditions, the City of Yellowknife has implemented a fire ban on open air fires within the City’s municipal boundaries. The ban prohibits open fires, including the use of approved fire pits.

Effective immediately and until further notice, a fire ban is now also in place for:

•              Fred Henne Territorial Park

•              Yellowknife River Territorial Park
