En 2018-2019, le nombre de touristes aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest (TNO) a encore pulvérisé les records établis. Plus de 120 000 personnes ont visité les TNO, dépensant plus de 210 millions de dollars au passage.

L’annonce a été faite aujourd’hui par le ministère de l’Industrie, du Tourisme et de l’Investissement (MITI) lors de la conférence sur le tourisme aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest, tenue à Yellowknife.

I’m pleased to be here this evening to welcome you to the gala, and use this opportunity to introduce myself as the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment and Infrastructure.

Being Minister of these departments is an important responsibility and I’m looking forward to working with the Premier and my Cabinet colleagues on behalf of the people of the Northwest Territories to advance the priorities of these departments.

Cette étude, commandée par la Commission géologique des TNO (CGTNO), fournit des données détaillées d’un levé magnétique aérien d’une région prometteuse, mais sous-étudiée.

Mr. Speaker, our territory has no shortage of spectacular sights for visitors and residents to enjoy. Our territorial parks are the starting point for many looking to experience these world-class wonders.

Through the life of this government, and in-line with our mandate, we have invested in enhancing these vital assets for the benefit of the growing contingent of tourists choosing the NWT, and our residents seeking to enjoy their recreational time.

Mr. Speaker, the demand for safe, affordable and locally-grown food choices continues to rise in the Northwest Territories and is a topic that our government is actively addressing as part of the Government of the Northwest Territories Agriculture Strategy.

À compter d’aujourd’hui, le Bureau de l’administrateur en chef de la santé publique du ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux met en œuvre les changements apportés au Règlement sur la sécurité dans les établissements alimentaires des TNO (le « Règlement »)

Mr. Speaker, I’m pleased to update this Assembly on negotiations toward the shared management of oil and gas resources in the NWT offshore, along with our ongoing work to undertake a 5-year science-based review of the federal moratorium on offshore oil and gas activity in arctic waters.

Wally Schumann, ministre de l’Infrastructure, a salué l’annonce d’un nouveau financement fédéral pour faire progresser le développement du Corridor d’accès à la province géologique des Esclaves (PGE).

Une somme de 40 millions de dollars sera accordée au projet pour les examens environnementaux et réglementaires, et les études de planification. Transports Canada versera un montant de 30 millions de dollars tirés du Fonds national des corridors commerciaux et le gouvernement des Territoires du Nord-Ouest versera 10 millions de dollars.

MP McLeod continues to support our infrastructure initiatives and recognizes that these types of projects are investments in the future of the north. For that and his continued support, we are grateful and pleased that you are able to join us this morning.

Mr. Speaker, strong economies must encourage economic diversity.

And while our economy relies on the resource sector as its foundation, our government has committed to fostering an economic environment where our residents can find success across a variety of sectors.

But it is also this government’s view that true economic diversity for the NWT also means getting the most out of secondary industries arising from our diamond sector, while also working to branch out and encourage the responsible development of new resources
