NWT artists and creatives are invited to apply for arts project grants from the GNWT

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is accepting proposals for its NWT Arts Council Grants from artists and organizations planning visual, literary, media and performing arts projects, artwork, or events in the Northwest Territories (NWT) from April 2023 to March 2024.

The application deadline is October 31, 2022 at 5 p.m.

The maximum funding amount is $15,000 and funding must be spent by March 31, 2024.

This funding supports and encourages the ongoing professional development, artistic work, and public presentation on a project-specific basis.

GNWT releases results for 2021 Employee Engagement and Satisfaction Survey

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has released the results from the 2021 Employee Engagement and Satisfaction Survey (EESS).

The 2021 Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey Report & Guide highlights the overall EESS results of the survey across all departments. It is designed to provide support with interpreting survey results and effectively using this information to improve employee engagement and satisfaction.

PWNHC featuring weaving workshops and artist demonstration and talk

Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) will be hosting several events in October with local artist Cathie Harper to promote her exhibit of handcrafted woven creations called ‘Interwoven’.

October 1: Boxboard Ornaments Workshops

Learn basic weaving techniques and how to make boxboard ornaments with Cathie. Two sessions are available for registration at 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4:30 pm, with limited drop-in space also available. This event is free of charge.

GNWT issuing one-time additional payment for Senior Home Heating Subsidy recipients

In response to the rising cost of living, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will be issuing a one-time additional payment for 2022-2023 recipients of the Senior Home Heating Subsidy. This additional payment, ranging from $400 to $800 depending on the community the senior lives in, is for the 2022-2023 year only.

Seniors who have already been approved for 2022-2023 do not need to re-apply for the additional one-time payment; it will be issued directly to the heating supplier on record.

Monkeypox vaccine available to eligible NWT residents

Immunization against Monkeypox is now available to eligible NWT residents.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends the Imvamune® vaccine be offered to people who may have, or have had, high-risk exposures to the rare, viral disease.

Imvamune® is approved by Health Canada for immunization against smallpox, as well as Monkeypox and other related diseases in adults 18 years of age and older. It is not a treatment for Monkeypox. The vaccine is used to protect against infection and disease.

GNWT Releases Polytechnic University Facilities Master Plan

The Polytechnic University Facilities Master Plan (FMP) was released today by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

The FMP is a comprehensive document that provides Northwest Territories (NWT) residents with a picture of what the future polytechnic university will look like. It includes proposals for infrastructure enhancements and expansions at all three campuses – Inuvik, Fort Smith and Yellowknife – and across a network of community learning centres.

GNWT launches Francophone Stream of the Northwest Territories Nominee Program

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) now has a stream specifically for Francophone applicants. Prospective Francophone nominees can apply to the program themselves if they are currently employed by an NWT employer or live abroad but have a valid job offer from an NWT employer.

The NTNP will now have three streams: Employer-Driven, Business and Francophone.

Milestone achieved as wind turbine arrives in Inuvik

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and NT Energy are pleased to announce the wind turbine and other large components of the Inuvik Wind Project have arrived in Inuvik.

The arrival of the single 3.5-megawatt wind turbine is a major milestone for the project, which is a key initiative under the 2030 Energy Strategy and will reduce diesel consumption in the NWT’s largest diesel-powered community by 30 percent – offsetting diesel consumption in Inuvik by three million litres annually. Construction of the project began in January of 2022.
