2019-2021 NWT-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Report Released

The Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of British Columbia are pleased to report on initiatives undertaken between 2019 and 2021 related to implementation of the Northwest Territories-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Agreement.

Through the Northwest Territories-British Columbia Bilateral Water Management Agreement, which focuses on the Liard and Petitot watersheds, both governments are committed to managing shared water resources in a way that maintains the ecological integrity of the aquatic ecosystem.

August 22-27 is Mining Week in the NWT

It’s mining week in the Northwest Territories (NWT). The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is joining with the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines, and the NWT’s mining community to celebrate the importance of mineral exploration and development to our economy, our communities and our people.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment, Caroline Wawzonek, released the following statement: 

New parking payment system at Yellowknife Airport

A new parking payment system will become operational at the Yellowknife Airport starting September 19, 2022 at 8 a.m. At that time, all vehicles will be required to get a ticket to enter the lots and pay a fee to exit.

Vehicles parked in the lot located across from the terminal building prior to the system coming into effect will be allowed to exit free of charge until October 2, 2022 (inclusively).

Vehicles remaining in the lot after October 2, 2022 will be required to pay a fee of $150.00 to exit the lot.

2022 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Funding – Call for Applications

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is making grant funding of up to $2500 available to support events that commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2022. 

This initiative provides special, application-based grant funding to support Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations to plan and deliver National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events in communities and locations across the Northwest Territories (NWT).  

The deadline for applications is September 2, 2022

HAVE YOUR SAY: NWT Species at Risk Committee Seeks Public Input on new Proposals

The public is invited to comment on two proposed re-listings and a draft management plan under the Species at Risk (NWT) Act.

The Act provides a process to assess which wild species are at risk of disappearing from the Northwest Territories (NWT), identify threats facing those species, and identify actions to help them recover.

GNWT announces new formula to calculate and adjust NWT minimum wage

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is changing the way it calculates and adjusts the territory’s minimum wage.

Beginning September 1, 2023, the minimum wage will be adjusted annually using a formula based on the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Yellowknife and the percentage change in the average hourly wage (AHW) in the Northwest Territories (NWT) for the preceding calendar year.

NWT Indicators Dashboard to provide snapshot of progress on social and economic situation post-pandemic

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched the NWT Indicators Dashboard that provides a selection of key economic, environmental, and social indicators for the Northwest Territories (NWT).

The NWT Indicators Dashboard fulfills the GNWT’s commitment in the June 2022 update of Emerging Stronger to launch a dashboard of indicators to report regularly on the NWT’s social and economic situation.
