The Evacuee Travel Support Program (ETSP) and the Evacuee Income Disruption Support Program (EIDS) provided financial assistance to residents of the Northwest Territories during multiple evacuation events in the spring and summer of 2023. Both programs were created as the need was identified and administered by the Department of Finance throughout the evacuation events.

Mr. Speaker, March is Rendez-vous de la Francophonie, a nation-wide celebration of French language and culture.

Mr. Speaker, the Government of the Northwest Territories formed the Marine Transportation Services, or MTS, division in 2017 to ensure that remote communities on Great Slave Lake, the Mackenzie River and the Arctic Coast would have continued access to essential, everyday goods. After seven sailing seasons providing reliable, this commitment has not wavered.

Today, Minister of Education, Culture and Employment Caitlin Cleveland issued the following statement for Pink Shirt Day:

The Government of the Northwest Territories pays tribute to volunteers by annually presenting the NWT Outstanding Volunteer Awards. A media release will be issued on February 29, 2024 with the names of all 2022 and 2023 recipients.

This March, Income Assistance recipients will receive a one-time additional benefit. The payment is determined based on the Market Basket Measure and is intended to help Northwest Territories residents with higher food costs. The one-time benefit will range from $343 and $717 depending on the community the recipient lives in.

The additional payment will be automatically included for Income Assistance clients in March, meaning recipients will not need to apply.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is now accepting nominations for the 2024 Education Hall of Fame.

The Education Hall of Fame provides lasting recognition and gratitude to those who have provided exemplary service or made a significant contribution to the field of education in the Northwest Territories.
