Bears are Back! Be Bear Aware

Bears are active in the NWT. We’re reminding everyone that avoiding bear encounters starts with you.

Residents can take quick and easy steps to be bear safe this season.

Don’t invite them in!

Avoiding encounters starts with not inviting bears to your home, cabin, or community. Attractants are almost always the cause. Negative encounters are more likely when bears are in populated areas, and if bears get habituated to human food and garbage they are more likely to stay close to people and less likely to survive in the wild.

All NWT Health and Social Services Authorities receive accreditation from Accreditation Canada

Health and Social Services Minister Lesa Semmler announced today that the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA), the Hay River Health and Social Services Authority (HRHSSA), and the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency (TCSA) have once again achieved system-wide accreditation status from Accreditation Canada.

System accreditation is a significant achievement for the health and social services system in the Northwest Territories. It signals that the system meets fundamental national standards of practice, policies, and programs.
